Uniform

We are very proud of our school and all children are expected to wear full uniform every day.  It shows that the children are part of the St. Joseph’s family.

Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception)

Girls and Boys

  1. Green school tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirt. Children can wear bottle-green shorts in the summer.
  2. Yellow polo shirt with or without the school logo on
  3. Black shoes with Velcro fastenings
  4. Green or white socks
  5. Small green / white / yellow hair accessories

Children in Nursery and Reception class do not change for PE lessons, so do not need a change of clothes.

Years 1 – Year 6

Girls:

  1. A plain, white shirt with long sleeves and button up collar which should be tucked into the pupil’s skirt or trousers in the winter.
  2. Plain, charcoal grey skirt or trousers or grey pinafore dress.
  3. Green and white patterned school or gingham dress in for the summer.
  4. Grey school jumper or cardigan with school badge on*
  5. School tie*
  6. Plain, black or dark brown sensible shoes (not trainers). Children are not allowed to wear open-toed sandals for health and safety reasons.
  7. Boots can be worn, if the weather requires, to travel to and from school. However, children must then change into shoes once they have arrived at school.
  8. Plain green or grey tights or below the knee socks.
  9. School hat or sun cap for warmth or sun protection at break times.
  10. School coat

Boys:

  1. A plain white shirt with long sleeves and a button-up collar which should be tucked into the pupil’s trousers in the winter. Shirts with short sleeves can be worn in the summer.
  2. Grey school jumper with school badge on*
  3. School tie*

To reflect the mature attitude that we expect from Year 6 children, they will be given a plain green school tie to wear.

P.E. Kit - Boys and Girls

  1. White t-shirt with school badge*
  2. Plain blue shorts
  3. Blue school tracksuit*
  4. Black or white trainers
  5. For swimming- one piece costume for girls and trunks for boys. A swimming cap needs to be worn if a child’s hair is long.
  6. Drawstring PE bag

Children should wear their PE kit to school on the days that they are due to have a PE lesson.

Additional sports kit should be brought in for after-school clubs.

Hair

Plain, black, white or green hair accessories to allow hair to be kept out of children’s faces. Shaved and patterned hair are extremes of fashion and, as such, are not acceptable. Any child with long hair must be prepared to tie back their hair for practical reasons or to prevent vision being obscured.

Jewellery

Only plain gold or silver stud earrings can be worn
Watches should be a sensible size and removed during PE lessons. No other jewellery is permitted for safety reasons.

Bags:

School rucksacks are available in infant and junior sizes, for years 1-6 respectively. Children in Nursery and Reception classes should use the school book bag.

Accessories:

School hat with logo*, dark green gloves and scarf


All items marked with an asterisk* are available from the school supplier Ace Clothing Company. Please note, non-branded items can be purchased from any supermarket or high street store.

St Joseph’s School Association hold regular second hand uniform sales and we encourage all families to use these for the good of the planet and to save money.

Please note, all items in bold can be purchased from supermarkets, as the branded version is not essential.

The Headteacher or Deputy will discuss any uniform concerns with parents.

ALL ITEMS OF SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOULD BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH THE CHILD’S NAME.

Summer uniform items should be worn from after the Easter Break until October Half Term break. This is, of course, weather permitting.
