Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

It has been my huge pleasure this week to go to the classrooms and see the children learning maths. There is such a wealth of knowledge from the children and the enjoyment and engagement that I have witnessed has been astounding. It is marvellous to see the creativity and effort that the children put into the lessons to make maths so engaging and relevant.

We are all very much looking forward to the Winter Gala which this year has a 70’s disco theme. Please remember to buy your tickets and book a babysitter. This promises to be a great night.

Congratulations to all of our Read a Thon winners. Caroline in reception and Molly in year 5 both won electronic readers. Thank you to all the children who read lots of books and gained lots of sponsorship for the school.

Once again, can I please ask all parents not to park on the zig zag lines both before and after school. This is for the safety of all children and parking on the lines causes a hazard. This is particularly important at the moment when we have roads works. Please consider others when parking.

This week Jarvis is going home with Alessandra in pink 2 who has been very kind and considerate to everyone in school this week. Mrs Robinson is delighted with the progress that she has made.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Head's Newsletter

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

On Wednesday we had an open morning for parents wishing to join St Joseph’s for September 2019. It was very well attended and the parents were very impressed with what they saw and with the children that they met. One of the messages that we gave was that we no longer have a catchment area and so if you have friends who live further afield, then please let them know that they can apply. This is even more relevant for children who may have moved into the area and who are looking for a place in key stage 2.

The Read a Thon has been a huge success yet again. Thank you to everyone who worked hard in the organisation, the collection and big thanks to the children who read, read and then read some more. We raised approximately £14,000 but will have the final figure next week when all monies have been collected and counted. Next week in assembly we will be making the prize draw and 2 lucky winners will receive a kindle.

Preparations for the Winter Gala are well under way and it promises to be a great night-especially if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Disco Diva or Disco Dave. Please remember to buy a ticket either on line or at the gate. This is a great way to support the school and get involved.

It was fantastic to see so many parents coming to school to look at the children’s books. The children have done some truly brilliant work so far this year and they are rightly very proud and love having the opportunity to show off.

Many thanks to our wonderful year 6 children who led in the school in a very moving and respectful Remembrance Day service this morning. All of the children were very dignified and mature.

Congratulations to Marine in blue 3 who has shown real kindness this week to other children in her class. She is always considering other children and I think she will look after Jarvis exceptionally well.

Now that the nights are drawing in and it is getting remarkably colder, we are collecting unwanted winter coats for homeless people. If you have any coats at home that you no longer need, please bring them into school and place them in the bag outside the main office.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

Today marks the end of Read a Thon. Thank you for all your support and contributions. When all of the sponsor money comes in, we will of course let you know the final figures and what we intend to do with the money.

The children behaved impeccably on Thursday when we joined the parish of our Lady’s for All Saints Day mass. Many thanks to Fr Jeff for leading this special celebration.

Congratulations to our Netball team who braved the rain on Thursday to win their group round. They will be playing in the finals next week where we are hoping for a win.

Three children in Blue 2 had a lovely surprise this week when they received a letter from the Duchess of Cambridge. Alice, Romina and Zac made a wooden badge for Prince Lois whilst they were visiting forest schools. The next day, when the Duchess arrived at Paddington Rec, she was presented with the badge. The letter that the children received thanked them for their thoughtfulness and kindness.

Thank you to those parents who attended the meeting regarding school finances on Tuesday. We are very fortunate at St Joseph’s that our parental body is so generous both in terms of finances and time commitment. Please also have a look at this letter which has details of how you set up a monthly donation. Thank you in advance for your ongoing support and generosity.

Now that the nights are drawing in and it is getting remarkably colder, we are collecting unwanted winter coats for homeless people. If you have any coats at home that you no longer need, please bring them into school and place them in the box in the entrance area outside the main office.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Head's Newsletter

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

Please remember to read as many books as possible over the half term and collect lots of sponsors for our Read a Thon. All children should have sponsorship forms, so please encourage family and friends to sponsor the children to read as much as they can over the next couple of weeks.

Thank you to everybody who came to our Parent-Teacher consultations this week and filled in the parent questionnaire. I hope that the consultations were useful and informative. If you do have any concerns, questions or need more information from the class teacher, please feel free to make an appointment. Appointments can also be made with me or Mrs Viana if you are worried about your child. Over the half term I will be looking at the questionnaires and will feedback the results once collated. The children have also been asked to fill in their own questionnaires this week, so hopefully they will provide lots of food for thought!

On Friday 2nd November, to mark the end of the Read-a Thon, children are invited to dress up as their favourite fictional character.

Congratulations and best wishes to Miss Dowling who is getting married over the half term break. We wish her and her new husband all the very best and hope they enjoy many years of happiness together.

We had a very interesting assembly on Tuesday where the children reflected on the amount of screen time they had and the amount of time they actually wanted spend on screens. The children made some great suggestions of activities that they could do over the half term including baking a cake, riding a bike, doing some sport, drawing, making a comic, writing a poem and, of course…reading a book for Read a Thon!

It was great to see so many parents at the Nursery Harvest Supper last Friday evening. It was a fantastic event and enjoyed by all. Thank you for your kind donations, from raffle prizes and food to preparation and cleaning up time. The total amount raised was over £800!

Can I please remind all parents that we are a healthy school and therefore children are only allowed to bring fruit or vegetables as a snack. We also have a number of children who have nuts allergies so please bear this in mind.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parents, Staff, and Governors,

Congratulations to our cross country team who came 1st out of 23 schools in the championships on Thursday. This is a brilliant achievement and shows the outstanding dedication of the children and staff. Well done.

The children have been showing off their poetic skill this week with many of them writing their own poems and some of the children reciting poems on Thursday as we celebrated National Poetry Day. The confidence and fluency of speech displayed by the children was inspirational.

We celebrated the Harvest Festival today in school and lots of the children brought in items to give to the Passage- a charity that supports people without homes. Once again, the generosity of children and parents was overwhelming. Thank you.

Can I please remind parents who drive to pick up in the morning and after school not to park on the zig zag lines. This causes a hazard and is incredibly dangerous and inconsiderate. Please don’t do it.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Husain

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

This morning we held our annual Macmillan coffee morning. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, their cakes and their money. The morning was a huge success and again, it was lovely to see everybody coming together. We raised a marvellous £1117.55. Thank you.

The Harvest Festival takes place on Friday 5th October. Children in Key Stage 2 will be celebrating in the hall with Fr Jeff at 2pm. We would welcome donations of non-perishable food and tinned items from all children which we will then send to the Passage.

Children in year 5 took part this week in a Tag Rugby competition, and although we were not the winners (this time), the children excelled themselves with their sports-personship. Coach Grant was exceptionally proud of them.

Children from year 5 and 6 also attended a writer’s workshop this week and joined with children from other schools to develop their story writing skills. A great time was had by all.

We held elections this week for house captains and were very impressed with the speeches given by the children in year 6 who chose to stand for captain and vice-captain. The children spoke confidently, purposefully and engaged with their audiences. The results will be announced in assembly on Monday.

Next week we are holding our very own Poetry Week with a daily Scholastic Book Fair, Poet Idol and overall celebration of all things poetical including parent volunteers sharing a poem with their classes and an Author Visit for Years 1-4 where all children are invited to purchase a signed copy of Veronica Cossanteli's book, "The Extincts."

Yours sincerely,

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

As part of our focus this year on the adoration of Jesus, children in key stage 2 – Blue and Violet classes- will be going to church on Tuesday afternoon for some guided adoration with Fr Jeff. I hope that during the year, the children have many opportunities to go to church to sit with the Blessed Sacrament and deepen their relationship with Jesus. The children have done some beautiful art work in the hall around this theme and I hope that they will truly benefit from a deeper understanding of the love that Jesus has for them.

Please remember that Tuesday 25th September is the School Association AGM, starting at 6pm in the school hall. All parents are members of the School Association and this meeting is the perfect opportunity to meet people and get involved. All are very welcome.

On Friday 28th September will be holding our Macmillan coffee morning, in the hall at 8:15. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help so far. Please bake a cake, bring a croissant and come and join us for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat and raise some money for this very good cause.

This week Jarvis is going home with Isabella in Blue 3. Miss Armstrong has been really impressed with her diligence and kindness since joining year 4. I know that she will look after Jarvis really well.

May God keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

I am delighted to announce that St Joseph’s is now a Forest School! Each class will go to Padding Rec once a term. Forest School was introduced to the UK in 1993 and was inspired by outdoor learning in Denmark. It has now grown into a well-known and much respected concept. Forest School focuses on child led learning, giving the children ownership over the

area during their visits. Children are valued and encouraged, have lots of fun, learn new skills and enjoy a positive experience in the park, engaging with nature as well as increasing their independence and self-esteem, which can transfer into other areas of life.

Forest School provides a safe environment for children to: engage with nature, learn new skills, have fun, become more independent, learn in the way they find works best, be encouraged in a positive learning environment and enhance their self-esteem.

I am sure that the children will benefit from this enjoyable experience.

Curriculum meetings for children in Nursery and Reception classes will take place next week.

Nursery: Tuesday 18th 9am

Reception: Wednesday 19th 9am

Unfortunately, we have a vomiting bug in school at the moment. It seems to strike very quickly, with children showing no symptoms until they are sick. If your child is sick, please keep them at home for 24 hours clear of last episode of vomiting.

It is great to see all of the children looking so smart, and more importantly, taking such pride in their school uniforms and personal presentation. Please keep up the good work.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs K Husain

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

As the school year draws to a close, may I take this opportunity to thank you all, on behalf of all the staff, for your cards, presents and good wishes.  Moreover, I would like to thank all of the parents for your support this year.  You have shown me what a true Catholic community is and without your help and cooperation, St Joseph’s cannot function to provide the very best for the children we are so fortunate to care for on a daily basis.

I have been extremely blessed this year to work with such an amazing group of professionals who are committed, determined and come to school each day with passion and enthusiasm.  Our teachers and support staff work tirelessly to support the children and provide the very best educational experience for them.  They do much more than what is asked of them and are examples of faith in action.  They have made my job this year so much easier!

St Joseph’s would be nothing without the children who come through the gates each morning, willing and eager to learn.  I am immensely privileged to play a role in the development and growth of these young people and it is a constant delight to see them and get to know them.  Thank you for entrusting them into our care.

St Joseph’s is so much more than a place where you do your lessons, sit your exams and go home. It is a place where you are part of something bigger than yourself, where you learn to be part of a genuine family and community that cares about each other and looks after each other. It has been a great year in the life of the school and at the end of the year, it is important to recognise what a special place St Joseph’s is.

I look forward to seeing you in September.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.
