Dear Pupils, Parents, Staff, and Governors,

During our Geography Week, kindly organised by Mrs Robinson, our KS1 and KS2 pupils have enjoyed learning orienteering skills in Hampstead Heath Adventure playground. This enriching learning experience has not only helped them in their Geography skills but they have also been given wonderful opportunities to reflect and demonstrate cross-curricular links in their writing and drawing, inspired by these activities.

This week, we were also fortunate enough to receive a visit from the NSPCC and their mascot, “Buddy”. This worthy organisation carried out a series of workshops and assemblies for the whole school delivering their “Speak out. Stay safe” programme. Nursery, Reception as well as KS1 and KS2 benefited from work around kindness, inclusion and tolerance. The children found these workshops very valuable and we, as a school, are very happy to support the NSPCC in their ambition to help every child in the UK and Channel Islands stay safe.

Preparations for the summer fair are well on the way. If you can help in any way, please contact the summer fair team led by Mrs Koczan-Santiago. Next week, on 28th June, children are invited to wear their own clothes and bring in a jar filled with small toys, games, stationery items or hair accessories (no sweets) and a pound towards the summer fair. All pounds will go towards buying prizes for games at the summer fair. On 5th July, children can again wear their own clothes and this time bring in a homemade cake for the summer fair.

This week, Jarvis will be going home with Muna and Adnan who are always kind and thoughtful towards all of their classmates and all of their teachers. They are wonderful role models inside and outside school, always living out our Mission Statement and being worthy St. Joseph’s ambassadors when on trips or excursions. I am sure that they will continue to flourish and that Jarvis will be very well looked after this weekend.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parents, Staff, and Governors,

This week our Year Five children attended the ‘Time to Shine ‘cricket competition at Lords Cricket Ground. In spite of the rain, they had much fun and participated well. Both Mrs Deacy and Miss Burton were very pleased with how the children conducted themselves. Despite the torrential rain the children did really well.

The children in Violet 3 have had a fantastic week at PGL! Their spirits have stayed high through rain, blustery wind and the very occasional spot of sunshine. Each child has challenged themselves, whether climbing the trapeze tower and taking a leap of faith, or abseiling down a 30 meter wall, everyone has participated with a smile and enthusiasm, cheering each other on and showing great support and encouragement when zipping through the air and getting completely drench building a raft. We really have had a blast and we will remember this week forever!

Please note that next year's early May bank holiday will be moved back by four days for the whole of the UK to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day. It will now be on the 8th May and not the 4th May 2020.

Sadly we have had several reports of inconsiderate parking from our neighbours, perhaps more distressing for a Catholic school is that some reports have indicated that parents have been very rude when asked to move their car, due to this lack of consideration one neighbour missed her hospital appointment. Please remember that you are not entitled to park across people’s driveways, garage entrances, and double yellow lines, resident parking bays or zig zag lines nor can you double park. If you are not able to park safely on a single yellow line outside the school then please do so in adjacent roads clearly displaying the school parking permit. This will allow you a grace 10 minutes to pick up and drop off your children. Do ask at the school office for a parking badge.

The week ended with a beautiful mass for our Year Three children. The mass, to celebrate their First Holy Communion was a wonderful celebration of all the work over the last few months. May I take this opportunity to congratulate all of the children in taking one of the Sacraments. A heartfelt thank you to Fr Lorenzo, Miss Donnellan and Mrs Meadway for facilitating this mass here in school.

Do Not Miss! - Doughnuts For Dad
On Thursday morning 20th June, Early Years and the KS1 classes will host a short thank you celebration for our Dads in the School Hall at 9am. There will be doughnuts outside for the Dads before school from 8:40am. The children will go straight into their classrooms. We look forward to seeing you.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parents, Staff, and Governors,

This week our Year 5 and Y6 athletes excelled themselves during their participation in the Active Westminster Quad Kids Athletics securing 2nd place in this Westminster wide competition. We are all very proud of their achievement and of the team work, determination and self-belief displayed by all of our St. Joseph representatives.

In other news, I am also delighted to share the fantastic achievements of Miss A. Ward (Blue Classes) and Miss S. Ward (Violet 1 and 2). Both are completing their Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching and Miss A Ward has passed her first year with a First while Miss S Ward will be finishing her degree with a First. I am sure you will join me in congratulating their achievements. We are truly blessed to have them both at St. Joseph’s and I am certain that one day they will both be outstanding teachers.

When bringing children to school after 9:00am, parents must sign the children in at the main Office entrance but should then hand their children over to the office staff who will escort their child to their respective classroom. The school gates open at 8:40 am and KS1 pupils should be brought to their classroom door by their parents or guardians, KS2 pupils should be entrusted to make their own way to their classrooms from the school gate and EYFS pupils should be brought to their respective classroom doors by their parents or guardians. This is an important safeguarding issue in terms of children being safe and adults and children being appropriately accounted for. Thank you for your co-operation.

This week Jarvis will be going home with Matthew who will soon be leaving us. We will all miss Matthew’s loving nature and fantastic sense of humour. During his year at St Joseph’s he has been kind and thoughtful towards all of his classmates and all of his teachers. He is a wonderful role model who follows our Mission Statement, respecting others and living life to the full with his smile and positive attitude. I am sure that you will be sorely missed and we wish you all the very best in the future.

Finally I would like to congratulate Tommy in Pink 2 who is now a very proud big brother. We would like to welcome George Oliver to the St. Joseph’s school community and wish all his family well.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Head's Newsletter

Dear Pupils, Parents, Staff, and Governors,

As you know, this week has been very busy here at St. Joseph’s in part because of the Y6 and Y2 SATs. Year 6 worked really hard and completed their SATs exams remaining calm, collected and engaged throughout. I am excited about getting the results and seeing how well they have done. Our year 2 children have also been busy completing their compulsory testing and again, the children excelled themselves. I am extremely proud of all of the children and I would like to thank parents and staff for all of your dedicated support and encouragement during these busy weeks.

Of course, the children have also been busy enjoying Science Week and I cannot wait for them to share their experiences with me either in their display work or in their books.

Next week, Y5 will be setting off on their school journey to Sayers Croft where they will enjoy a range of activities including pond-dipping, building shelters, sharing each other’s company and spotting rabbits and bluebells in the Surrey countryside.

Our sporting initiatives also continue next week with two days of Cricket at The Hub, Regents Park for 10 pupils from Y5 and Y6 (Y5/6 girls on Tuesday and Y6 boys on Wednesday). I am sure they will be excellent sports ambassadors for the school.

On Thursday 23rd May, in accordance with the fulfilment of our civic responsibilities, the Sharp Suite will be made available for the European Elections. Y6 will therefore make use of the Y5 classrooms given that the latter will be enjoying their rural excursion.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

Many thanks once again to all of the parents of St Joseph’s who made the auction such an overwhelming success. We raised over £80,000 which is thanks to all of your support and generosity. I feel extremely privileged and grateful to be part of such a strong school community and I know I can rely on all of your support for our next event, the Summer Fair. This week we have been fortunate enough to have the Holy Week liturgies that KS2 have performed with such reverence and thoughtfulness for the rest of the school. The children explained their understanding of the events of this special time beautifully and it was wonderful to see so many parents joining us during these liturgies.

Thank you to Fr. Jeff who invited KS2 to pray the Stations of the Cross at Our Lady’s this week. The children were encourage to live their faith during the Easter period, taking full opportunity of their Lenten obligations to pray and grow closer to Jesus.

I would also like to extend my thanks to parents, pupils and teachers for their fantastic effort in our Easter Bonnet parades this week. Special thanks must be given to our judges, Priscilla Sharpe, Julia Nilson and Eileen Chao who performed their unenviable task with great attention to detail and thought. Finally, Melissa and Riley, our Head Boy and Head Girl were invaluable during Wednesday’s celebrations and also judged the overall staff winner. Much fun was had by all and the winners were:

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

I would like to say a special thank you to Chauntel and Kitty, the driving forces behind our wonderful Auction Team this year, together with all of you who supported the event either through creating our amazing artwork, offering promises, bidding on items, running the bar or tidying up afterwards, ensuring that the whole night ran smoothly. We are extremely fortunate to have such a supportive network of parents and teachers at St. Joseph’s and we hope to share the final figure with you in next week’s newsletter.

Our Hockey athletes also demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and team skills, coming 12th out of approximately 25 London boroughs. They should be deservedly proud of their efforts, as are we.

On Wednesday and Thursday we are hosting our annual Easter Bonnet Parades with EYFS and KS1 On the 3rd April at 2pm and KS2 on 4th April, also at 2pm. Please note that this week (week ending 29th) is the last week of after-school clubs and you will be delighted to hear that school finishes at 1:30 pm on Friday 5th April. We are back at school on Tuesday 23rd April and summer uniform is to be worn - girls summer dresses only available from Ace Clothing Suppliers .

Jarvis is going home with Georges today because his teachers have all been impressed with how kind, caring and conscientious he is. Georges is hard working, polite, always tries his best and is a lovely boy to teach. Georges truly lives out our school mission statement every day and I know he will look after Jarvis very well over the weekend.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

Thank you all so much for the encouragement and kindness that you have shown me. I am sure that, with your support, together with that of all of our wonderful staff, and Mrs Wilson, the pupils in St. Joseph’s will thrive and our school continue to provide our children with an enriching learning environment.

Congratulations to our basketball athletes in Y5 and Y6 who performed excellently on Wednesday. Riccardo (Y6) has written a short report of this event: “When we entered the Moberly Sports Centre, I felt very excited and so did the team. We spent the first couple of hours doing drills and practicing for the real games. Once we were in competitive spirit, we began to play our first game and we drew one to one. The second game was also a draw at two-two. We finished all our games with a better result, nine-seven. The team came fifth out of fifteen other teams. We were proud of our good work and strong efforts.”

Please join us for our Open Afternoons (for existing parents only) which are taking place next week on Wednesday and Thursday at 3:00 pm. The children thoroughly enjoy this opportunity to share their work with their parents.

On Tuesday, Y5 will be attending their Lenten Mass at Our Lady’s at 10:00 am. We are, as always, very grateful to parents who accompany the children on the walk to and from church.

On Wednesday 27th March, Miss Brooks will be hosting a Big Writing Work-shop in the hall from 9:00 to 9:30. This is a great opportunity to learn tips and strategies on how to best support your child in their independent writing.

The Auction is now only 1 week away and it is really important that you donate your promises. Please think about what you can contribute - this could be babysitting; flower arranging; hosting a dinner party; a taxi service; a week in a holiday home. Be creative and contribute! We rely on the auction for the quality of education and provision in our school. The success of the auction depends on the input of everyone.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Thank you all so much for all the kindness that you have shown me over the past couple of weeks. I am absolutely overwhelmed with your generosity of heart and spirit and feel very blessed that our family has known and will experience such a loving community as the one at St Joseph’s. Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

The new half term has started with a real buzz thanks to a brilliant art week organised by Mrs Robinson. All of the children from years 1-6 have enjoyed a visit to the Tate this week and they have all come back to school with lots of ideas and creative energy. Everybody has also enjoyed a plate painting workshop and it has been great to see the children enjoying art and experiencing the pleasure of making something beautiful.

Congratulations to our swimmers in key stage 2 who performed marvellously in the swimming gala on Thursday. Out of 16 schools we came 4th. The children had a great day and were a credit to the school.

Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, marking the start of lent and the children in Key Stage 2 will be attending mass at Our lady’s at 10am. We are always grateful to parents who accompany the children on the walk to and from church.

The Auction is now only a few weeks away and it is really important that you donate your promises. Please think about what you can contribute - this could be babysitting; hosting a dinner party; a taxi service; a week in a holiday home. Be creative and contribute! The success of the auction depends on the input of everyone. Enter your promises here.

Please remember to join us on Monday in the hall from 8:30am to welcome Mrs Wilson to St Joseph’s. This will be an opportunity to have a coffee and say hello.

Many of you may be aware of proposals to move Victoria Coach station from its current location to Royal Oak. Royal Oak is just south of Harrow Road and 0.8 miles from the school.

14 million travellers use Victoria coach station each year and the negative impact on our local area and the school children and their families in terms of big increases in pollution, crime, noise and congestion is very significant.

I have included links to the Westminster Labour and Conservative pages who are both petitioning against these proposals.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Head's Newsletter

As we come to half term and the half way point of the year, it is an ideal time for reflection. The first half of this year has been very busy and full and during the course of this week I have had the chance to meet with all of the teachers to discuss the progress that the children have made so far. I have to say that I am so proud of all of the children who are all working so hard and are all making such fabulous progress. The year 5 assembly on Thursday was a good example of the children being engaged, enthused and creative learners. They did a marvellous job of combining E safety with the Tudors – a rare feat!

It has, of course, been E safety week in school and years 1-6 all had workshops with our E safety consultant friend, Belinda. Belinda was very impressed with the knowledge that the children showed and how sensible they are. As I am sure you know, it is really important to talk to your children about what they are doing on line, who they are talking to and how much screen time they have.

Jarvis is going home with Maisie today who is very gentle, kind and caring and I know she will look after Jarvis very well over half term.

Congratulations to Coach Grant and his Fiancée Jane who are getting married on Wednesday. We wish them all the best.

I hope that you all have a very restful and peaceful half term and I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 25th February.

May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.
