Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,
Welcome back everyone. It was wonderful to see the children return to school on Tuesday and we were all so excited to try out our new KS1 Playground with trim trail. I must confess that many of the teachers had enjoyed the apparatus during our Staff Training Day on Monday!
I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Wilson for her determination and drive in pushing forward this project together with the improvements in the Y6 classroom.
Many thanks also to the continued support from all of our parents. Your donations to the Governors’ fund and School Association activities have funded these works and, although the Governors have underwritten the playground works, the SJSA is committed to raising more funds to install murals and further equipment. Please ensure that you attend the School Association AGM on Tuesday 24th September at 6pm in the school hall. All parents are members of the School Association and this meeting is the perfect opportunity to meet people and get involved. All are very welcome.
All the children have already settled into their new classes and year groups. Thank you to all of the staff who have been working hard over the last couple of weeks to prepare the classrooms and to plan enriching lessons. Thank you to all of you who have attended the curriculum meetings. I hope you found them informative. The Power Point presentations will be on the website.
Please ensure that you send us relevant information regarding your child’s medical conditions and that you send in the accompanying valid medication directly to your child’s class teacher. We would recommend 2 of everything so that one can be stored in the class room and one can be taken outside with the designated adult. We will be sending out hard copy and electronic forms which must be returned by Monday 9th September. Your child’s well-being is of the utmost importance to us all.
As part of our health curriculum, we will also be welcoming Harold and the Life Education Mobile Classroom next week from Monday 9th to Friday 13th. The classroom has been purchased and is run by Coram Life Education, a registered charity. This is an annual visit which provides progressive lessons, teaching the children about the importance of their bodies and how to take care of them. Parents are invited to short, informative sessions on Tuesday 10th September 3:05-3:30 and Friday 13th September 9:00-9:30. I do hope that you will be able to attend one of them to find out what your child is learning.
On Friday 20th September we will be celebrating our Welcome Mass with Fr. Kevin at 2pm in the school hall. All parents are most welcome and I am sure the children would love to see you there. From 4-6 pm we will also be holding our Family Fun Day, a SJSA fund-raising initiative which is also a wonderful way of celebrating the St. Joseph’s school family. For further information on this event please contact Mrs Gorman.
As you are all now aware registration for clubs is open now and clubs commence week beginning Monday 9th September.
On Friday 27h September will be holding our Macmillan coffee morning, in the hall at 8:15. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help so far. Please contact Mr Bowles if you would like to volunteer or if you would like any information on how you could help. Please bake a cake, bring a croissant and come and join us for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat and raise some money for this very good cause.
May God bless you and keep you and your family safe.
Dr N Fernandes-Viana
