Head's Newsletter

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

The Read-a–thon is well and truly underway and the children have enjoyed ‘dropping everything to read’ as well as hearing stories from parents and teachers.  KS2 enjoyed hearing the author Laura Dockerill talk about her work and found it very informative. It was a wonderful sight this morning to see the children coming to school in their pyjamas and all of the classes had a marvellous time reading and relaxing this afternoon. I hope that everybody finds a bit of time over the half term to enjoy the pleasure of reading.

Many thanks to everyone who attended the parent – teacher consultation this week.  They were very positive meetings and I am glad that you have been informed of your child’s progress and given steps to further support and enhance your child’s learning at home.  We are very lucky at St Joseph’s to have such a committed and interested parental body who are fully committed to supporting the school in order for the children to reach their full potential.

Thank you also to those of you who completed the Parent’s Survey.  If you did not get the chance to fill one in, and you would like to, please speak to Mrs Dunphy in the school office and she will be able to give you one. Once the surveys have been collated, I will inform you of the results.

On Wednesday 1st November the children in Key Stage 2 (Blue and Violet) will be attending mass at Our Lady’s for the feast of All Saints.  Parents are warmly invited to join us and to accompany the children walking to and from church.

To celebrate the end of the Read-a-thon, children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Friday 3rd November.

We will be holding Open Days for prospective parents on Wednesday 8th November at 6pm and Monday 13th November at 6pm. This will include a talk from the head and a tour of the school and is for parents of children looking to join St Joseph’s nursery or reception class in 2018.

Parent workshop by the school’s Educational Psychologist, Alexander Haswell:

The Importance of Play and Sleep in Child Development
Tuesday November 7th at 9:15am

In this one hour workshop we will discuss the importance of play and sleep in child development. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination and is essential to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. We will also look at the importance of sleep, as evidence shows that night time sleep is just as important as healthy eating and exercise for children to develop.
This will be a practical workshop, offering all parents who attend meaningful strategies and ideas to support their children around these crucial areas. There will be lots of room for questions during the workshop and parents will be invited back later in the academic year to meet again with the educational psychologist, to discuss progress and ask questions / share observations and ideas.

I hope you all enjoy a pleasant and restful half term holiday and I look forward to seeing you on Monday 30th October. May God bless you and family and keep you safe.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Husain
Head teacher
