Head's Newsletter

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

Monday 16th October sees the start of our Read a Thon.  Children will be bringing sponsorship forms home with them, so please encourage family and friends to sponsor the children to read as much as they can over the next three weeks.

Events taking place as part of Read-a –thon:

  • We would welcome parents to come and read a story, book or poem to their children’s class. If you are available to do this, please speak to Mrs Viana.
  • On Tuesday 17th October, at 9:30 Laura Dockrill, an outstanding children’s author, will be talking about her new book ‘My Mum’s growing down’ to all of KS2.  Signed copies will be available for parent to buy both after the visit and at the end of the school day.  Parents are most welcome.
  • Pyjama Day: On Friday 20th October, all children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas - in the afternoon, all classes will spend time reading and having a lovely, cosy time.
  • On Friday 3rd November, to mark the end of the Read-a Thon, children are invited to dress up as their favourite fictional character.
  • Every child who takes part will be put into a draw to win an e-reader or a Waterstones gift card (donated by Chestertons)

Many thanks to Mrs Alford who very kindly took all the harvest festival food to the passage.

The Harvest Supper for parents in Nursery takes placed this evening.  We hope to see many Nursery and Reception parents there and we are looking forward to a lovely evening.

Parent - Teacher consultations take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week (18th and 19th October). Please make sure that you have signed up for a slot via Parentmail.

Parent workshop by the school’s Educational Psychologist, Alexander Haswell:

The Importance of Play and Sleep in Child DevelopmentTuesday November 7th at 9:15am
In this one hour workshop we will discuss the importance of play and sleep in child development. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination and is essential to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. We will also look at the importance of sleep, as evidence shows that night time sleep is just as important as healthy eating and exercise for children to develop.
This will be a practical workshop, offering all parents who attend meaningful strategies and ideas to support their children around these crucial areas. There will be lots of room for questions during the workshop and parents will be invited back later in the academic year to meet again with the educational psychologist, to discuss progress and ask questions / share observations and ideas.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Husain
Head teacher
