Head's Newsletter

Dear Pupils, Parent, Staff, and Governors,

It was wonderful this week to walk around the school and spend time in the classrooms observing the children enjoying so many rich and diverse activities.  From painting a huge pietà in the Blue classes, to story writing  in Pink and some very difficult problem solving in Violet.

I am delighted that Coach Grant is working in school every day this year and I’m sure that the children will thrive under his guidance to further develop their sporting prowess!  The children have also been enjoying music lessons this week with Ms Hudson and orchestra resumed yesterday at 8am in the Sharpe Suite.  If any musicians would like to perform at the Friday celebration assembly, please speak to myself or Mrs Viana.  I was delighted to welcome back Mrs Deacy who is, this year, working with the children in Key Stage 2.  Mrs Deacy will be encouraging the children to develop their knowledge and understanding of current affairs and public speaking.

We are looking forward to resuming Italian lessons next week and will keep you informed of any plans for an Italian after school club.

We will be celebrating the rich cultural diversity of St Joseph’s at the International Evening this evening from 6-8pm.  All are invited to bring a dish from your home country and something to drink.  Children and families are invited.

Clubs starts next week - 11th September – please make sure the office have your contact details and please note that clubs end at 4:30pm. Thank you.

Fr Jeff is joining us on Friday 22nd September at 2:30 in the school hall to celebrate the start of the new school year with a Welcome Mass.  Parents are welcome to join us.

Church Street Masterplan Consultation

We will be holding a Parent Partnership meeting on Tuesday 19 September, Maddie Cross from Westminster City Council’s Church Street regeneration team will be coming to talk to parents. The council are asking the community for their views on a masterplan for the Church Street area which looks at housing, retail space and the local economy. Please come along to give your feedback.

Please remember that Tuesday 26th September is the School Association AGM, starting at 6pm in the school hall.  All parents are members of the School Association and this meeting is the perfect opportunity to meet people and get involved.  All are very welcome.

On Friday 29th September will be holding our Macmillan coffee morning, in the hall at 8:00. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help so far.  Please bake a cake, bring a croissant and come and join us for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat and raise some money for this very good cause.

Parent workshop by the school’s Educational Psychologist, Alexander Haswell:
The Importance of Play and Sleep in Child Development Monday 7th November 9:15am

In this one hour workshop we will discuss the importance of play and sleep in child development. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination and is essential to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. We will also look at the importance of sleep, as evidence shows that night time sleep is just as important as healthy eating and exercise for children to develop.

This will be a practical workshop, offering all parents who attend meaningful strategies and ideas to support their children around these crucial areas. There will be lots of room for questions during the workshop and parents will be invited back later in the academic year to meet again with the educational psychologist, to discuss progress and ask questions / share observations and ideas.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Husain
Headteacher
