Head's Newsletter

Dear children, parents, staff and governors,

At both our Monday and Thursday assemblies this week we have had guest speakers visiting us.  On Monday, Ann Dolan from Mary’s Meals, came to thank the children for the 30 backpacks that they havefilled withitems that a child would need for school i.e. pencils, notebooks, water bottles etc.  These will be taken by Mrs. Harrington to a collection depot at Heathrow airport and flown out to different countries in Africa by the Mary’s Meals charity.    Then on Thursday,   Rachel from the NSPCC, came to thank the children for their wonderful efforts in raising £800 through sponsorship.  This money will enable the charity to provide counselling to children across England.  I too, would also like to thank the children and their families for their generous response to both appeals.

We also had three representatives of Savills estate agents, based in Elgin Avenue, visit us today.  They were here to launch a Sunflower competition that they are funding.  During the course of next week every child in the school will receive a bag containing a packet of sunflower seeds, a plant pot and a bag of soil.  The aim is for every child to grow a sunflower over the summer months and then in September take a photograph of themselves and their sunflower.  The sunflower height will have to be recorded with the photo.  The child from each class who grows the tallest sunflower will win a book token.  The school will also receive a donation from Savills.  So even if you don’t have a garden, you can grow the sunflower on a sunny balcony or even a windowsill.  Let’s see who can grow the tallest sunflower!

Also, just to remind parents ofYear 6 & 3 that theAuction sleepover promise is fast approaching.  Y3’s date will be Friday 9th June and Year 6 Friday 16th June, so don’t forget your sleeping bags and toothbrushes!

As I mentioned last week in my newsletter we will be holding a Parent Partnership meeting on Tuesday23rd May, at 9am, in the school hall.  The focus of the meeting will be on teaching and learning across the schooland class arrangements for next year.  We will also be welcoming a guest speaker, Mrs. Mary Wilson, who is Headteacher of St. Mary of the Angels, Bayswater. I do hope that you will be able to join us.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. V. Richardson
Head Teacher
