This week we have been talking about Chinese New year. On Monday a reception parent visited and set up a cooking station on the deck. The children were able to smell, touch and identify the different herbs and noodles used for Chinese cooking. Finishing with all having a taste of the dish.
We followed this up with the quiet room becoming a Chinese restaurant where the children enjoyed role playing being chefs, wait staff and customers. It was exciting to see the collaborative play happening among the children. We discovered it was the year of the Rooster and made a rooster with our hand prints. We looked at Chinese writing and made lanterns and dragons.
Our story this week was the Tiger Who Came For Tea and was a very popular choice, with many of the children sitting with their friends retelling the story with enthusiasm and delight. As we head into the last week of the half term we are so excited at all that has been happening in the nursery where all the children have been engaged and working hard.
Have a fun weekend all.
