Dear parents, children, staff and governors,
Class 1B assembly yesterday was very enjoyable and made me think about the seasons of the year. Their closing prayer said ‘Dear God, help us not to moan about the seasons’ and I thought how apt this was at this time of year when I, for one, am always complaining about the cold weather! But today we have beautiful sunshine and the first snowdrops are appearing around the school so I agree with the children that every season is wonderful and we should enjoy them.
I have been asked by a few parents about the policy around bringing party bags into school when it is a child’s birthday. Having spoken to Mrs. Husain, I know that for many years now the policy has been that we ask parents not to put cakes of sweets into the party bags they ask us give out. This is a school that encourages healthy eating and fruit or raisins would be more appropriate. I know that we like to share the joy of birthdays with our children’s friends but do bear in mind that not everyone can afford party bags for every child and just a simple token such as a pencil or pen or a sticker would be a very good idea.
Whilst I am talking about school policies, can I remind parents of our uniform policy. School uniform includes the winter hat, which is available from Ace Clothing. No other hat is acceptable. The same applies to the school scarf and the school bag. The school bag, is roomy enough to fit all the children’s equipment for the day. This includes their P.E. kits which should include black and white trainers only. We encourage the children to take pride in their uniform as they are our ambassadors for our school, especially when they are representing our school at sporting events. Parents, please help us with this by ensuring that all items of your child’s uniform comply with our policy.
Next Week is Internet Safety Week and here at school the children will be having lessons about how to stay safe when using computers etc. The assembly on Friday 10th February will be led by Class 4 and will focus on Internet safety. This will be followed, at 9.30am by a talk for parents by an expert from 3BM computing systems on how to keep your children safe. Please do come along and hear this very important information on keeping our children safe.
The St. Joseph’s School Association is meeting on Tuesday 7th February at 6.30pm. This is a very important meeting as we will be planning our auction event which is to be held on March 18th. There is a lot of work to do for this event and your contribution will be greatly appreciated. Please do come and join us at this meeting.
I hope you enjoy the weekend, whatever the weather!
Mrs. V. Richardson
